Not really Michiel related, but since the lack of news, I decided to post it anyway. He was mentioned by Game Of Thrones writer George R.R. Martin in an interview about season 5. it’s a fun article to read if you’re a GoT fan!

When “Game of Thrones” made its big Season 5 casting announcement at San Diego Comic-Con, noticeably absent were any of the new Iron Islands characters introduced in George R.R. Martin’s novel “A Feast For Crows,” which Season 5 is partially based on.

Many fans assumed this omission meant those characters — namely Victarion Greyjoy, Euron Greyjoy and Aeron Greyjoy, the brothers of Theon’s father Balon Greyjoy — would not be a part of Season 5. Instead, the assumption was the new season would focus on the Martells in Dorne, a setting which is going to be shot in Spain. But that might not be the case after all.

Digital Spy posted an interview with Martin from a recent UK event where the site says it asked him about both the new Dornish characters and the new Ironborn characters being introduced in Season 5. It’s unclear if his response is a confirmation the Ironborn will be in Season 5, though, because he never overtly mentions them in his answer.

“We have some great new characters coming in, and especially in the context of the show, we have some marvelous actors playing them, and that adds an extra dimension that doesn’t exist in the books,” Martin tells Digital Spy. “And we’ve seen last season where we introduced Oberyn Martell, the Red Viper of Dorne, and we had Pedro Pascal playing him, the world fell in love with this character almost instantly, because Pedro worked that part with such immense charisma and power and was just so great to watch. From the moment he appeared on screen, the audiences loved him. So hopefully we can get that phenomenon going again.”

Again, it’s unclear if Martin is speaking specifically about the new Dornish characters, or of potential new Ironborn characters as well. It wouldn’t be unheard of for “Game of Thrones” to add additional actors to its lineup beyond what was announced at Comic-Con. Roger Ashton-Griffiths wasn’t revealed as Mace Tyrell and Michiel Huisman wasn’t announced as the new Daario Naharis until August 2013, Joel Fry wasn’t confirmed as Hizdahr zo Loraq until September 2013 and Struan Rodger’s role as the Three-Eyed Raven didn’t come out until October 2013. In other words, fingers crossed.

“Game of Thrones” is currently filming Season 5, which is expected to premiere in spring 2015 on HBO.
