season-6-tease

CHICAGO TRIBUNE – Season six of “Game of Thrones” will premiere on April 24, HBO announced Thursday at the Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena.

While details are scarce about the plot for the upcoming episodes of the hugely popular fantasy series, a teaser released late last year suggests that it will address the season five cliffhanger that left fans speculating whether Kit Harington’s Jon Snow was alive after he became the victim of a Julius Caesar-like uprising.

The season also marks the return of Isaac Hempstead-Wright as Bran Stark, a character who has not been seen since season four. New cast members this season include Max von Sydow as the Three-Eyed Raven (a character first played by Struan Rodger) and “UnREAL” actor Freddie Stroma as Dickon Tarly, the brother of John Bradley’s Samwell.

Ian McShane will also join “Thrones” in an undisclosed role for one episode in season six, and has cryptically teased that “I am responsible for bringing somebody back that you think you’re never going to see again. I’ll leave it at that.”

All other seasons of “Game of Thrones” premiered somewhere between the end of March and the middle of April, and this time frame is a strategic move for HBO. Television episodes must air before the close of Emmy nomination voting on June 24 of this year in order to be eligible for this year’s Emmy Award consideration. Last year’s “Game of Thrones” finale aired on June 14 — the day before nomination voting began in 2015. The series went on to win the Emmy Award for best drama.

The “Game of Thrones” season five finale brought the show’s largest audience ever, averaging 8.11 million viewers. The series was also the most-pirated TV show of 2015.

VARIETY – Discovery Channel is revving up production on its limited series about the founders of Harley-Davidson Motorcycles, casting Michiel Huisman (“Game of Thrones”), Robert Aramayo (“Game of Thrones”) and Bug Hall (“The Little Rascals”), and tapping Evan Wright and Seth Fisher to write the six-hour project.

“Harley and the Davidsons,” from Raw Television, will tell the story of the birth of the iconic brand launched in 1903 by two friends from Milwaukee, William Harley and Arthur Davidson. Production is slated to begin in March. The series will air in three two-hour installments later this year.

Huisman (Daario Naharis on “Game of Thrones”) will star as Walter Davidson, while Aramayo will play William (Bill) Harley and Hall will portray Arthur Davidson in the series.

“Harley and the Davidsons” is part of the push to add a select number of high-end scripted projects to Discovery’s lineup under the leadership of Rich Ross, who took the reins of the cabler a year ago. Ross recruited producer John Goldwyn to drive the scripted initiative. Goldwyn exec produces “Harley” with Dimitri Doganis and Ciàran Donnelly. Donnelly is set to direct the first and third installments of the series.

“It was essential to find a dynamic, contemporary voice for a show set in the turn of the century America. With Evan Wright and Seth Fisher, we feel we have selected the perfect writers to transport the Discovery viewers back to the formative, hardscrabble years of Harley Davidson and the birth of motorcycle racing,” Ross told Variety.

Wright’s recent credits include Amazon’s “Man in the High Castle” and FX’s “The Bridge.” Fisher recently worked on National Geographic Channel’s “Saints and Strangers.” He’s also an actor who has logged appearances on “The Good Wife” and “CSI,” among other shows.

The 2016 SAG Awards will be held on Jan. 30 on TNT and TBS.
